FCSO Arrests Colorado Fugitive in Palm Coast
On Monday night, a fugitive from Colorado was arrested by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) in Palm Coast. Deputy Harrison conducted a traffic stop on Matthew J. Ko after he failed to stop at a red light before turning onto Palm Coast Parkway. He was also driving with an inoperable headlight and without a valid driver’s license. During the traffic stop, Deputy Harrison determined that Ko had a warrant for his arrest with nationwide extradition from El Paso County, Colorado.
FCSO Detention Facility Awarded 2023 American Jail Association’s Innovation Award
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office’s Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility (SPHIDF) has been awarded the 2023 Innovation Award for medium-sized facilities by the American Jail Association. Sheriff Staly, Court and Detention Services Chief Dan Engert, and other Detention Services members accepted the award at AJA’s 42nd Conference and Jail Expo on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, in Omaha, Nebraska during the awards banquet.
FCSO Increases Motors Unit Staffing to Eight Deputies
The Flagler County Sheriff's Office has increased its Motors Unit staffing from five to eight deputies in an effort to address the traffic quality of life in the community. The Motors Unit, which patrols on Harley-Davidson motorcycles, is tasked with enforcing traffic laws and responding to traffic crashes and other emergencies on the roadways. They also focus on traffic violations including speeding, reckless and aggressive driving.
Female Arrested for Aggravated Battery after Attempting to Stab a Deputy with a Fix-a-Flat Tool
On May 11, 2023, FCSO Communications received a call of a female riding a bicycle against traffic on East State Road 100, almost causing several collisions. While enroute to the area, dispatchers received multiple calls the female had begun to vandalize vehicles by “keying” several vehicles on the roadway as she rode her bicycle by them.
Sheriff Staly Speaks at 2023 Volusia/Flagler Law Enforcement Memorial
Sheriff Rick Staly was the guest speaker at this year’s Volusia/Flagler Law Enforcement Memorial on Friday morning at the Daytona Memorial Park in Daytona Beach. The Sheriff was joined by Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) Chief David Williams, who gave “A Hero’s Welcome” speech, prayer, and benediction to honor the fallen members of law enforcement that died while serving both counties. The event is hosted annually by the Volusia-Flagler Police Chiefs Association.
